 THREE DAUGHTERS OF EVE

        By Elif Shafak.

The book 'Three daughters of Eve'depicts the author extraordinaire way of using similes and metaphors to make it easier for imagination. The novel illustrates different way of thinking of people even from same religion .

The story revolves around a girl named Peri nazbontuglu .Her father was Mansoor and mother Salma. Her father was a Muslim but not following the teachings of religion he had a disbelief in God while her mother Salma was a practising Muslim. She had two elder brothers Umut and Hakkan one of them supporter of father and other a supporter of mother. The polarity in Nazbontoglu's family made Peri confused and God  remained a question for which an right answer to be searched.

Peri's brother Umat  a chemical engineering student fixed the posters of Marx,Gransci,Comrade Che,Rosa. One night police raided the house ripped off the wall with posters ,checked the books all belong to Umat 'The communist manifesto of Karl Marx,The condition of the working class in England by Friedrich Engelsand 'many more then police searched Peri's toye and found a gun in it .Umat was arrested and charged with the membership of an illegal communist organizations. He was tortured alot in their custody.peri's father Mansur kept blaming his wife for not taking care of his son while he worked outside and her wife blamed Mansur for bowing the seed of godless -ness in his son.

Peri's other brother Hakkan wanted to get married but when he was married he claimed that his wife was not a virgin his wife's parents took her to hospital got her checked and doctor stated the the girl was a virgin .Salma and Mansur were very ashamed for their sons behaviour but the girl compromised and lived with Hakkan later they got a son .

Mansur used to motivate peri to work harder as she was only one who could change their families fate.Peri worked harder and got admission in oxford their she met Shirin an Iranian muslim living in exile but had a  type of disbelieve .She often used to praise professor Azur and asked Peri to take his classes.

Peri also met Mona a practising muslim ,a feminist she was an Egyptian-American born in New Jersey and moved with her family to Cairo.Soon Peri came to know that Shirin also insisted Mona to join professor Azur's classes .

When Peri was able to join Azur's classes she saw Mona also attending the classes. All students from different beliefs ,ideologies had came to attend the classes .Professor Azur had a wife Anissa daughter of professor Naseem from whome Azur was taking classes.Soon after Azur's marriage he found out that how incompatible they were.Anissa's step sister Naur with whom Azur crossed a threshhold they had an affair when Naseem came to know he criticized and cursed Azur.Anissa compromised tried to keep her relation and moved to Oxford with Azur but one day got missing while on a walk down the river and after few days her dead body was found.Naseem blamed Azur for Anissa  incidence.Azur had a special way of teaching he wanted students to think in a way beyond thinking of theists or atheists. Bring philosophy in practical life.

One day Shirin offered Mona and Peri to live with her in a apartment and leave the hostel all payment will be from Shirin soon Peri came to know that it was an experiment of Shirin behind which was the mind of Azur that how the believer, the sinner and the confused would live together they might learn from each other.Peri also came to know that Shirin had an affair with Azur .Troy told her all he was a boy kicked out of class by Azur and wanted to get revenge from Azur.Peri tried to commit suicide after hearing this because she had feelings for Azur shared all her family problems and then told about the girl in the mist which only Peri could see.Troy seued Azur blaming him that he had an affair with Peri and was responsible for this mishap. As soon Peri became conscious she was called by the committee for her statement of the incidence but Peri not in position to make any sorts of decision ran away to Turkey and never returned to Oxford

After so many years passed Peri was a mother of two .One day after an accident she went to a dinner with her family to a business man's mansion. There she had intense feeling to call Shirin and she did so after a long time Shirin answered she wasn't angry now they knew about each other as both talked to Mona.Shirin urged her to call Azur.Soon the mansion was attacked by some armed men all were in their custody except Peri who was upstairs talking on phone she hid in a wardrobe called Azur apologized him but he knew that it wasn't her fault she was not in a condition to tell anything to the committee. Azur had lost his job at Oxford and now only read ,wrote and lived a simple happy life with a little more strength after bearing all those allegations. Peri now called Police informed about the situation. Soon sound of sirens were heard. The story ends here without narrating what happened next.
