Book review:the song of Achilles

 The novel 'THE SONG OF ACHILLES' written by 'MADELINE MILLER' is a mystical ,romantic ,violent ,classical novel based on stories about Greek gods .

Petroclus, son of Menoitus a king.He took petroclus to Tyndareus as a suitor for his daughter Helen, like other prince's .Helen was given a chance to choose she chose Menaleus.All others went back to their places disappointed. Once Petroclus was alone with two pairs of dice in his palm, a boy asked for the dice he refused to give him the dice,they had a fight and suddenly Petroclus planted his hand on boy's chest and shoved him hard that the boy's head studded fully on a stone and was dead then Pertroclus was exiled to Phtia where he became friends with Achilles son of king Peleus whose wife was a sea goddess Thetis whome the gods had to swear to love on land where she became pregnant and her delivery she went back to sea and Achilles was raised by tutors and nurses she often used to visit Achilles. Petroclus and Achilles had become more then friends they used to sleep together. Thetis disliked Petroclus.

Achilles and Petroclus had been trained medicine and fighting skills  by Chiron in caves . One day Achilles was called by his father to discuss about an important matter ,many people were called . The wife of Menelaus, Queen Helen had been abducted by son of king Priam,Paris.Now they were told to rescue Helen . One night when Petroclus was sleeping next morning as he woke up he couldn't find Achilles ,he searched everywhere then went to Chiron who told his that Thetis has taken Achilles to Scyros so that he donot participate in the war.When Petroclus went to Scyros in search of Achilles there he met daughter of king Lycomedes,Princess Deidemeia he asked for Achilles but Deidemeia told Achilles to stay till she tells him about Achilles.She arranged a dance and musical session of Deidemeia's women suddenly a girl flung himself joyously at Petroclus . It was Achilles . Deidemeia started crying loudly Lycomedes appeared and asked what happened , Achilles told that Petroclus is his husband and he is here to take her but Deidemeia cried and said that he is lying he is a boy and I am pregnant everyone is shocked it is revealed that Achilles and Thetis had deceived Lycomedes .Thetis appeared and told Lycomedes to shelter his son here. Lycomedes sent his daughter far away . One day few kings came on a dinner and again it was exposed that Achilles is hiding here they asked Achilles to accompany them on voyage to rescue Helen. Achilles and Petroclus went  with them. Agamemnon ,who requested to start the war to rescue Helen he asked Achilles to marry his daughter and then called his daughter when she arrived Agamemnon killed his daughter as a sacrifice for god so that wind should blow and they reach their destination. 

It was the first murder Achilles saw after that he had to go fight and capture the places looted them made females their slaves. The Greeks used to take what they got as a reward . Many girls were taken Petroclus asked Achilles to take as much girls so that they could be saved from other vicious Greeks. Briseis was the first girl to be saved she became a close friend to Petroclus.As they reached Troy ,Achilles decided not to fight till the time Agamemnon begs him as he had insulted Achilles by taking back Briseis.Petroclus requested Achilles to join the war when he refused Petroclus asked get in Achilles attire and go to war and soon Petroclus killed Sarpedon but Hector killed him. Achilles now decided to take revenge then he killed Hector and didn't let his body to be buried.After which Paris killed Achilles . After Achilles death his son Neoptolemus called Pyrrhus who was 12 years old ,took his father's place.

Pyrrhus blamed Briseis to be the reason that his father stopped fighting but Briseis said that it is not true.Pyrrhus didn't believe her and Briseis then stabbed Pyrrus then ran away towards sea her dead body was even not found.

Pyrrhus had ordered to built a tomb for his father . Achilles last wish was that his ashes to be buried with Petroclus ashes but Pyrrhus refused to do so.Achilles ashes was buried and ACHILLES was written in the tomb .After sometime Thetis went to visit his son's tomb where she sits too long doing a work.Pyrrhus had killed Paris but now he is killed by Agamemnon's son as he stole his bride and ravished her. The story end when Thetis says to the voice to Petroclus to go to Achilles he is waiting . She writes Petroclus on the tomb besides where it is written ACHILLES
